Anthony Vandertuin

Based in Toronto, Canada, Anthony creates bold figurative and landscape paintings. Working in multiple layers and sessions, he creates works that go beyond the literal, creating something more compelling - somewhat abstract yet familiar. His paintings combine a love of drawing with abstract and textural deconstructed elements. Having shown in several TOAF and the Artist Project shows, his work is in private collections in Toronto, throughout Canada, the US and the UK. Anthony is an Editorial Illustration graduate (AOCA) of the Ontario College of Art.

My work is all about capturing the feeling of a moment in time. It might be a fleeting glimpse of a face or the powerful impression of a landscape.
The goal when I paint is to capture what the subject feels like through colour, form, texture and mark-making.
The abstract landscapes are created from memory and imagination. Many are likely reminiscent of vistas encountered on numerous canoe trips in Northern Ontario.
Others are evocative of the expansive views and rugged natural beauty of Canada. Each of them are liberating explorations of paint application and composition.
