Emily Pleasance
Emily/Amalia (she/her) is a queer Hungarian environmental artist and activist based in Tkaronto/Toronto. Working within a decolonial framework, her practice uses a range of methods and materials including wood, found objects, resin, photography, fiber, performance, and installation work – her unique aesthetic style having been called neo-folk. Her use of colour and the tactile invite a sense of play and curiosity to its viewers as they engage with topics such as our relationship with ourselves, each other, and the more-than-human world. Fundamentally, her practice is about helping folks back to their bodies through their senses to remember their interconnection with all beings.
