Now What: Grace Dam
September 12–October 6
Humanity and the complexity of life are central themes in Dam’s figurative work. From challenges in relationships to inter-connections between humans and their surrounding environment. In these scenarios, body language plays a critical role, it can be a great aid and companion to our vocal communication, yet can also betray it completely. It adds charm and provocation to the narrative, a delightful and essential part in Dam’s figurative works and portraiture. Whether in an unintended encounter between strangers or a planned intimate setting, each scenario can be an indelible in our memory and here it is conveyed on her canvas. Dam continues to focus on and highlight the complexity and challenges in human interactions in her on-going works. Centred on relationships, they act as a social commentary and an essay about life.
Grace Dam is a Canadian artist based in Toronto. Her focus is oil and acrylic paintings, in figurative and abstract style; her practice extends to include photography, works on paper and other supports beyond the traditional burlap.
