This show is a foray into the imaginary urban forest: an ode to the gritty, the night shadows, the sudden splash of colour when the sun hits, the concrete and the unexpected tags glorious in their irreverence. A month-long residency in the mecca of Canadian ceramics at Medalta, Medicine Hat, Alberta, under the immense Prairie skies, affirmed the artist’s exploration of these opposites, these contrasts, these colours. Each step of the creative process has its allurement: the actual making where clay becomes form; the bisque firing where all the shapes are the same warm red, textures obvious, and become a group; and the glazing, where the accumulation of various glazes renders the surface of each beast different. Hidden shy creatures appear, fantastical amidst the man-made buildings, eager to play.

This unthemed group show has allowed our Melt Artists to have free rein over their subject matter. These artists have let their imaginations run wild, coming up with new creations inspired by flora and fauna, outer space, history, and more. This exhibition features work in a variety of mediums: paintings, sculpture, photography, collage, typography, and more.
