Nat Gurba

Nat Gurba (they/them) is a queer Ukrainian artist and writer living in Prince Edward County, Canada. They exist at the intersection of art, agriculture, ancestral roots, community care, taking care of their plants and cats, and the perpetual pursuit of moving the needle on making our world more liberated and liveable.

Weaving together the themes of spring, renewal, hope, and grief, these pieces explore the overlaps in imagery and potency of Ukrainian and Palestinian traditional embroidery (vyshyvka and tatreez). The creation of the repetitive and meticulous motif in each piece physically stores a meditation on the meaning of liberation. The bulbs are planted and poised to grow into a radically free future for all globally oppressed people.
