AWAY Home Collection: Wood Beds
AWAY Home Collection: Wood Beds
By: Wallis Design Build
Solid wood bed frame made from locally sourced wormy maple wood, a sustainable and local wood to Ontario. The beds are handmade by artisan Glen Wallis in his Prince Edward County shop.
Beds are made to order and can be ordered with or without a headboard, in Queen and King sizes.
Even though we call it wormy maple, the darker streaks are not caused by a worm at all. They are actually caused by a beetle. The Ambrosia beetle infests the live Maple tree, depositing larvae that bore small “worm holes” and discolor the wood, you might also find people in the wood industry refer to wormy maple as Ambrosia maple. Of course these beetles are eliminated during kiln drying so there are no beetles in your end table at all.
Glen has made his beautiful beds for the top accommodation establishments in Prince Edward County, Ontario; AWAY in the County Bed & Breakfast, which he owns and operates along with his wife, Susan Wallis, (a renowned encaustic artist) and Angeline’s Inn, where Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Sophie visited in recent years.
