Susan Wallis owns and operates Melt Studio and Gallery and is a renowned encaustic artist, and is represented by various galleries across Canada. Her art has collectors throughout Canada, the US along with Germany, England, Japan & Australia. Encaustic painting is also known as hot wax painting. This ancient medium involves using heated beeswax to which coloured pigments may be added.
During Pause – a nature + art experience, Susan will guide you in creating your own piece of encaustic art using the items found during your experience walk. You will create a unique collage with the items that inspired you from your walk and, if you choose to, also from a selection of papers, fabrics, and photographs that Susan will provide.
Tamara Segal of Hawthorn Herbals is a Registered Herbalist (RH) by the Ontario Herbalists Association. With Tamara’s calm presence, lifelong dedication to the study of plant medicine, and an enormous wealth of knowledge, you will have a truly inspiring experience. Along the way, you will be encouraged to collect a few pieces of nature to add to your art piece.
Bay Woodyard of Honey Pie Hives and Herbs is celebrating 21 years in the honey and herb business. Living sustainably on this planet has always been very important to her. Bay grows her own herbs without the use of nasty chemicals. Healthier for us all and for the bees.
Bay will guide you on a tour through the gardens. You will visit the Honey Pie Hives & Herbs farm, which Bay runs with her husband Gavin in Prince Edward County. You will have a tour through Bay’s herbal and flower gardens and will learn about the various uses of the plants. From her garden, Bay produces a multitude of products — teas, creams, soaps, botanically-dyed wool, and of course, honey. You will also have the unique experience to learn about the life of bees and share in a sweet honey tasting.
